Former Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) raised some serious concerns about President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for his second term, particularly when it comes to his appointments for key roles. On MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, Jolly discussed Trump’s recent pick of Steven Feinberg for Deputy Defense Secretary, a billionaire businessman with little to no experience in national security.
Jolly pointed out that Trump seems to value wealth over experience, believing that billionaires like Feinberg are a sign of strength. But there’s a catch: this focus on wealth may overshadow the importance of actual experience, especially when it comes to national security.
The Founding Fathers designed the U.S. government to be run by civilians, not the military. While top generals lead the country’s military forces, they report to civilian leadership, ensuring a balance of power. But with Trump surrounding himself with inexperienced civilian leaders, there’s a real risk.
Jolly warned that these unqualified leaders might struggle to challenge or advise Trump effectively. Imagine the danger if Trump were to tweet something rash on Truth Social — it could have serious global consequences. Without experienced leaders in place, there’s no one to stop a potential disaster.
So, while wealth might seem impressive, it’s the lack of experience in key positions that could put America’s national security at risk. Let’s hope the right people are in place to guide the nation through these uncertain times.
