At a recent event at Turning Point’s America Fest, Donald Trump shared that Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed interest in meeting with him to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump said, “President Putin said that he wants to meet with me as soon as possible,” and added, “We need to end that war. It’s horrible, just horrible.”
Trump, who is set to return to the White House in January, has previously promised to end the war quickly if he’s elected, even claiming he could do it in just 24 hours. He’s also criticized President Joe Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied weapons to strike inside Russia.
Trump has hinted that, under his leadership, Ukraine might see less military aid. Ukraine relies heavily on support from its international partners to keep fighting Russia, providing them with military, financial, and humanitarian aid.
“The number of soldiers being killed is staggering,” Trump said. “It’s a flat plane, bullets flying, powerful guns, and the only thing stopping them is a human body.”
Earlier this month, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris before the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral. After the meeting, Trump called for an “immediate ceasefire.”
