A heated debate is brewing online, and it’s all about the H-1B visa program in the U.S. The center of this storm? Vivek Ramaswamy, former presidential hopeful and the soon-to-be co-chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Ramaswamy recently voiced his support for bringing in highly skilled foreign workers through the H-1B program, which helps U.S. companies fill specialized positions. His comments didn’t sit well with many in the MAGA community, especially President-elect Donald Trump’s supporters.
In a tweet, Ramaswamy explained that top tech companies often hire foreign-born engineers because of culture—not because Americans are less intelligent. He argued that American culture has prioritized mediocrity over excellence for too long. He called for a shift to celebrating achievement and hard work instead of focusing on “normalcy” and “conformity.”
Naturally, this sparked strong reactions from both sides. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley quickly responded, saying there’s nothing wrong with American workers or American culture. Mike Cernovich, a well-known right-wing figure, also chimed in, questioning why America needs foreign talent when it once thrived without it.
On the flip side, some voices, like billionaire Mark Cuban, questioned whether more focus on homegrown engineers means more students heading to college first.
With tensions running high, it’s clear that the future of the H-1B program and its role in the U.S. economy is something to watch closely. Stay tuned!
