A new poll has revealed that a majority of voters are backing calls for an investigation into former Rep. Liz Cheney’s actions during the January 6th select committee. According to Rasmussen Reports, 57% of likely voters support GOP calls for the FBI to look into her role, while just 33% are against it.
Why the fuss? Cheney, a Republican, was a vocal critic of then-President Donald Trump and his actions leading up to the Capitol riots. She even went so far as to endorse Trump’s challenger, Vice President Kamala Harris, and campaigned alongside her. But it’s not just her words that have caught attention—there are serious allegations against her.
A report from the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight accuses Cheney of witness tampering. The claim? Cheney secretly communicated with Cassidy Hutchinson, a key witness, without Hutchinson’s attorney knowing. Hutchinson had already given some explosive testimony, including claims about Trump trying to take control of the presidential limo—a story that’s since been questioned.
Unsurprisingly, Republicans are especially eager to see an investigation into Cheney’s actions. A whopping 73% of them support an FBI probe. While public opinion on Cheney is mixed—42% view her unfavorably, and 40% favorably—it’s clear that the controversy surrounding her role in the Jan. 6 investigation is far from over.
