A crime scene has been established in Blacktown, Sydney, after a man was tragically found dead in a house fire on Saturday afternoon. Emergency services were called to Grant Street at 4:05 PM after reports of a blaze.
Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW managed to extinguish the flames, but when they found the 76-year-old man, they were unable to revive him. Paramedics made efforts to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The house, described as a “hoarder’s premise” by NSW Fire and Rescue Superintendent Grant Rice, posed unique challenges for the firefighting crews.
With up to 32 firefighters and eight trucks at the scene, the blaze was contained to the property, preventing it from spreading further. A police presence was visible outside the house, as officers spoke with grieving family members of the deceased.
Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The exact cause of the fire and whether foul play was involved remain under investigation. The community in Blacktown is left in shock as this tragic incident unfolds.
