In a tense scene Thursday night, deputies in Yuba County responded to a 911 call from a woman in Olivehurst, who was in a heated argument with a man and urgently asked him to put down a gun. The call came from the 4700 block of Fleming Way, just before 9 p.m.
When law enforcement arrived, they found the suspect, 30-year-old Andrew Shrader, visibly intoxicated and holding a firearm. Despite their efforts to calm him down, Shrader made a move toward his gun, causing one of the deputies to fire his weapon. Thankfully, the suspect wasn’t injured by the gunfire.
The situation didn’t end there—two other deputies used non-lethal methods to subdue Shrader, and he was safely taken into custody. After a quick trip to the hospital for minor injuries, he was booked into Yuba County Jail on several charges.
This dramatic event is now under investigation by the Yuba-Sutter Officer-Involved Shooting and Critical Incident Unit, which is looking into every detail.
While it’s still early in the investigation, it’s clear that thanks to the quick actions of the deputies, a potentially dangerous situation was brought under control without anyone getting hurt. Shrader is facing serious charges, and the community can rest a bit easier knowing that law enforcement handled this tense standoff with care and professionalism.
Stay tuned for updates as the investigation continues.
