Stephen Curry Reflects on His Legendary Career: ‘The End Is Near, But I’m Savoring Every Moment’

Stephen Curry, the iconic sharpshooter and heart of the Golden State Warriors, is taking a moment to appreciate his incredible journey as he enters his 16th NBA season. At 36 years old, the thought of retirement has started to cross his mind, but Curry is embracing the present with a renewed sense of joy and urgency.

“It’s OK to accept and acknowledge that the end is near,” Curry shared in a candid interview with ESPN. “But only because it allows you to enjoy what’s happening right now. The more you acknowledge it, the more it levels up the sense of urgency in the moment, now.”

Curry’s career is nothing short of historic. With four NBA championships, two MVP awards, 10 All-Star selections, and the title of the all-time 3-point king (a staggering 3,841 made), he has redefined greatness on the court.

Even as he approaches the twilight of his career, Curry remains a formidable presence. Sure, he had an off night against the Memphis Grizzlies last week, scoring just two points on 0-for-7 shooting. But overall, his stats this season show he’s still got it: 21.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game. Those numbers might be a dip from his previous seasons, but they still outshine most players in the league.

Interestingly, his rebounding and assist averages are above his career marks, proving he’s finding new ways to impact the game. While his minutes and 3-point shooting percentage are slightly down, his efficiency inside the arc is better than ever, showcasing his adaptability.

With 21 games to go before he reaches 1,000 regular-season appearances (not counting an additional 147 playoff games), Curry is savoring every step. “I think about retirement more than I probably have before,” he admitted. But he hasn’t hinted at when he’ll actually hang up his sneakers.

For now, he’s under contract with the Warriors until 2027, thanks to a one-year, $62.59 million extension he signed in August. That gives him at least a few more seasons to chase another ring and add to his already monumental legacy.

Next up for Curry and the Warriors? A Christmas showdown with the Los Angeles Lakers, where they’ll look to climb the Western Conference standings.

One thing’s for sure—whether it’s his next game, next season, or his eventual farewell tour, Curry is making sure to savor every moment of his basketball journey. And as fans, we’re lucky to witness it all.
