Doug’s Dugout – “Winning is their Kauling”
Joining us in the Dugout this week is Centralia High School Softball Coach Mallory Kauling. This past week, Kauling notched her 200th win as Annies head coach. Kauling, with a very humble response, chalks up win number 200 to her team. “ Honestly, I think it made me reflect a little bit on the great athletes and players that I’ve been really lucky and fortunate to have come play for me. It’s a testament to the program and the hard work the kids put in.” This past week the Annies snapped a losing streak against the Althoff Crusaders and added a landslide, 5-inning victory over Odin 18-6.
Coming off a 29-4 record in 2019 with a Sectional Championship and the most wins in CHS Softball history, the Annies have a well rounded group of ladies that were more than ready to hit the field after not having a 2020 season. “We have several veterans on the team and also some very inexperienced players. I think our veterans have done a lot to help out the underclassman. I’ve seen a lot of improvement and I’ve really enjoyed this team; they’ve taught me a lot. With all of the extra distractions, I’m really proud of how they’ve handled the adversity,” says Kauling. The Annies will kick off Regional action June 2 at Mt. Vernon.
