Trump Uses New Orleans Assault to Bolster Claims on Criminals Crossing the Border

President-elect Donald Trump reacted to the deadly truck attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, using the incident to highlight his concerns about criminal activity and border security. Trump referenced his previous warnings about dangerous criminals crossing the U.S. border, a statement that had been criticized by Democrats and the media. He expressed that the recent attack validated his claim.

The attack took place early on New Year’s Day when a suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, reportedly drove a pickup truck into a crowd of revelers in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was carrying an ISIS flag and dressed in military gear. At least 10 people were killed, and 35 others were injured in the incident, which was labeled a terrorist attack by the mayor.

In a statement on social media, Trump condemned the violence and reiterated concerns about rising crime rates across the country. He expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, as well as support for the New Orleans Police Department. “The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil,” he wrote.

Trump’s remarks also pointed to the crime and immigration issues that were central to his re-election campaign. He criticized the Biden administration for reversing his policies on border control and allowing more illegal immigration, claiming that it exposed the country to greater risks from criminals and terrorists.

President Joe Biden responded to the attack, offering condolences and commending the quick response of local law enforcement. He stated that he had been briefed by federal and local officials, ensuring that every resource would be used in the ongoing investigation. Biden also reassured the public that there was no further immediate threat.

As investigations continue, the attack remains a focal point in the debate over national security and border enforcement.
