Trump Issues Stark Warning to GOP About Democrat Tactics in Hearings

President-elect Donald Trump issued a New Year’s Eve message urging Senate Republicans to stand firm against efforts by Senate Democrats to stall his Cabinet nominations. Posting on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the historic mandate he received from the American people in the recent election, calling on Republicans to ensure a smooth confirmation process for his nominees.

Trump warned that Senate Democrats were preparing to use various tactics to delay the confirmation of his picks, highlighting the urgency of filling key positions to address what he called the country’s major problems, many of which, he stated, were caused by Democratic leadership. Trump’s message was clear: “Republicans, be smart and tough.”

Confirmation hearings for Trump’s Cabinet nominees are set to begin after Congress returns from its holiday break. Among the most closely watched nominations is Pete Hegseth, Trump’s choice for defense secretary, who faces a confirmation hearing scheduled for January 14. Trump will have the support of a Republican-controlled Senate with a 53-47 majority, which is expected to facilitate the confirmation of several high-profile nominees.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s nomination for secretary of state and New York Representative Elise Stefanik’s selection as ambassador to the United Nations are expected to be confirmed smoothly. However, some nominees may face more resistance. Hegseth, accused of sexual misconduct, and former Representative Tulsi Gabbard, selected for director of national intelligence, who has been criticized for her perceived pro-Russia stance, may face challenges despite strong support from Trump’s MAGA base.

Trump’s pick for Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., might also face hurdles due to his controversial views on vaccines and other health-related issues.

In a separate move, former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration for attorney general, with former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi now nominated for the position.

The Trump transition team has instructed all nominees to refrain from posting on social media without prior approval to avoid any public missteps ahead of confirmation hearings.
