Mary Trump Sounds Alarm After Donald Trump’s Legal Victory

Mary Trump, the outspoken niece of Donald Trump, didn’t hold back on Saturday when she warned, “We’re doomed,” after her uncle’s defamation lawsuit against ABC News was settled.

The lawsuit stemmed from a broadcast earlier this year where ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos inaccurately claimed that Trump had been “found liable for rape” in connection with writer E. Jean Carroll’s legal battles against him. While a New York jury did find Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her character, they did not rule that he committed rape under New York’s narrow legal definition.

To settle the lawsuit, ABC News agreed to pay $15 million toward Trump’s presidential library and issue a public apology. They’ll also cover $1 million in legal fees for Trump’s attorneys. In a statement, ABC News said they were “pleased that the parties have reached an agreement to dismiss the lawsuit.”

Mary Trump, a long-time critic of her uncle, reacted sharply on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “How many coloring books can $15 million buy? Also, we’re doomed.”

This isn’t the first time Mary Trump has sounded the alarm. Back in November, after Donald Trump’s surprising win against Vice President Kamala Harris, she warned of challenging times ahead. In a YouTube video titled Understanding Trump’s Shocking Win – Mary Trump’s Path Forward, she shared her concerns, calling the election result “a tragic blow to the American experiment.”

Still, she offered a glimmer of hope, reminding viewers that allies around the world understand the struggles Americans face and are ready to stand in solidarity. “There are a lot of people out there who understand what we are going through… and understand the fight ahead of us,” she added, showing supportive TikTok videos from women leaders globally.

As for Trump’s legal troubles, his battles with E. Jean Carroll aren’t over. He’s still appealing court decisions that ordered him to pay her millions for defamation. The legal saga continues, but for now, ABC News’ settlement closes one chapter — though Mary Trump clearly thinks the story is far from over.
