Okawville FFA places 1st in Section
Okawville FFA members participated in the Section 22 and State Ag Business Career Development Event (CDE) held on May 5. Okawville placed 1st in Section 22 and 5th in the state competition. Nathan Lintker led Okawville with a score of 135 which was good for 1st place honors in the section contest and 6th place in state. Also placing in the section top ten for Okawville were Bryleigh Prest (3rd, 122), Caleb Unverfehrt (4th, 108), Garrett Green (5th, 94), and Aiden Shubert (9th, 82). Alternate team members included Lukas Hearn (112), Harrison Borrenpohl (84), and Hunter Grant (78). Hearn placed 2nd in the state alternate division.
The contest required individuals to complete a written test on agricultural business concepts. Topics covered included recordkeeping, net worth statements, income statements, commodity marketing, economic principles, calculating interest, budgeting, taxes, business organization, credit, risk management, and agricultural law. FFA Advisor Joshua Berg coached the team.
Tolono Unity won the state competition, followed by Seneca and Prairie Central. Twenty-seven schools and 129 individuals entered the state contest. In the Section 22 competition, Okawville topped Wesclin and Marissa for the first place plaque. FFA promotes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
