Jefferson County Treasurer Bob Watt has announced that the 2021 payable in 2022 real estate property tax bills will be mailed August 10. There are two installment due dates; September 9 for the first installment; and November 9 for the final installment. The Treasurer’s office, and most local banks will begin accepting payment on August 10, 2022. The online, and pay-by-phone options are open now.

Once again, taxpayers have multiple payment options available. Taxpayers may pay with an eCheck, credit card, or debit card online at www.paytaxes.us_jefferson; or by-phone by calling 844-924-2100. There is a fee associated with all online payments. ECheck, Credit card, and debit card payments will NOT be accepted in the Treasurer’s office.

Most local banks will accept cash or check payment of “on time” real estate property taxes. For a list of participating banks in Jefferson County, taxpayers can visit www.jeffersoncountyillinois.com/property-taxes-online scroll to “Payment options” and click on “local banks”.

Payment may also be paid via U.S. Mail by mailing your check and payment stubs to Jefferson County Collector, 100 South 10th Street, Room 100, Mt Vernon, IL 62864.

In person payment by cash, check, or money order may be made at the Jefferson County Courthouse in the Treasurer’s office. Credit and debit card payments may only be made online or by phone as stated above.

If you do not receive your tax bill in the mail within a reasonable time, you can find a free copy at bbamsoft.com/Jefferson/. You may also come to the Treasurer’s office to have a duplicate copy printed for a fee. The fee is a $3.00 to reprint a privately owned residential property tax bill, and $5.00 for a commercially owned property tax bill.
