Jefferson County Treasurer Bob Watt has announced that the second distribution of 2021 property tax collections will be distributed on November 23, 2022 to the more than 100 taxing districts with jurisdiction in Jefferson County. The total distribution will be in excess of $18 million. The taxing districts can expect to see their share of the distribution in their bank accounts on the 23rd.

Friendly reminder notices were mailed on November 18 to property owners who had not paid their taxes by November 14. If your tax was paid after the 14th and you receive a reminder letter, kindly disregard it

Looking ahead, the Treasurer’s office will be mailing delinquent tax notices on December 2 via certified mail. The annual publication of delinquent taxes will be on December 16. In order to avoid publication, taxes must be paid by 10:00 a.m. December 13. The annual tax sale of unpaid taxes will occur on January 5, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in the Jefferson County Treasurer’s office located in room 100 at the Jefferson County Courthouse located at 100 South 10th Street in Mt. Vernon, IL. The last day to pay 2021 real estate taxes, and 2022 mobile home taxes before the tax sale is January 4, 2023 before 4:00 p.m.
