The annual IFBW Leadership Conference was held at Castle Ridge on July 9, 2022. Following registration, members were welcomed and recited the Collect. Past State President Barb Yong was the presenter of the Legislation Workshop, and later gave presentations on the Child Marriage Act and Pay Equity.

Keynote Speaker Judge Sonja L. Ligon, was introduced. Judge Ligon is an Associate Judge of the Illinois Second Judicial Circuit and is a native of Mt. Vernon, IL. Past State President Pat McNicholas was the presenter of the Website Resource Workshop. Lunch was then enjoyed by all and the group was escorted with a tour of the Castle and Gaetti’s Sports Academy.

The conference continued with Centralia BPW past president and IFBWC OWWI Chair Sylvia Mahle making the presentation of the Outstanding Working Woman of IL to New Horizon Christian School Administrator Grace Malekovic. Grace is a wife and mother of three young boys and a graduate of Salem High School and SIU-Edwardsville.

The State Motto this year is “Dream Bigger, Sparkle Brighter, and Live Bolder.” President Perkins-Schnicker challenged everyone to “Dream Bigger as we help motivate each other to follow, chase and achieve our dreams. Sparkle Brighter because there is no downside to having a little sparkle in your life. And, finally, Live Bolder because you’ve only got one life to live, so make it your best one.

She went on, “Each day there are an infinite number of moments to change your life for the better. In everything we do as an organization, no matter how small, there’s always an opportunity to strive for greatness. Maya Angelou said, ‘At the end of the day, people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.’”

Perkins-Schnicker continued her challenge: “So, my Sisters, I ask you that we love each other, be honest and straight-forward, and that through our achievements and service, bring honor not only to ourselves, but to all women and to the Federation. As women, our real legacy is not what we accomplish individually, but what we do for others and how we motivate them to work together for a common goal.”
