Genealogical Society has open house on May 23

On Monday, May 23, Marion County Genealogical Society will have an open house, with special hours of 3 to 6 p.m. in the Society’s space in the Bryan-Bennett Library. The library is located at 315 S. Maple St. in Salem. There will be volunteers to help you start on your family research.

Jeanelle Charman will do a presentation on her Gaston family research.

Featured will be a Revolutionary War theme, with a “Wall of Honor” and a SAR display. People are encouraged to bring any memorabilia, pertaining to the Revolutionary War, that they might want to share. Journals will be displayed, with references or stories about Marion County and the Revolution available for sale. Marion County has some patriots buried here.There are bibliographies, which have facts regarding the Revolutionary War people, in the Bryan-Bennett Library and other nearby Heartland Systems facilities.

Refreshments will be served.

Coming up in June, will be the annual history of an area church. This time it will be the Salem Presbyterian Church, where Wm. Jennings Bryan was a member & donated the beautiful pulpit.

July will feature a book signing & presentation on Johnny “Bob” Harrell of Louisville, Il.
