Area family pledges to hospital’s cancer care campaign
Leading the way in SSM Health Good Samaritan Foundation’s Cancer Care Campaign is immediate past Foundation Board Chair, Rex Cusumano and his wife, Mary Ellen.
While dreaming as to what this campaign would look like and how, as a community, everyone could come alongside the clinical teams to help with treatment and healing of the patients battling cancer, Rex was quick to respond. The first to step to the plate and join the President’s Circle of the Good Samaritan Society, Rex and Mary Ellen pledged a gift of $25,000 in support of the campaign. The Cusumano Family has chosen to continue their dedication to the hospital’s mission, which is to continue the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by improving and providing regional, quality health care services for everyone, with a special concern for the poor and vulnerable.
“Rex always emphasizes the last portion of our mission statement and I believe that the underprivileged are who he and his family envision when they think of their investment providing care and compassion in our community. We are thankful for Rex and his family for leading this Foundation and our community of donors by their example, and we know that their investment is improving the quality of life for our community members battling cancer,” said Shawna Bullard, Administrative Director of Fund Development for the Illinois Region.
“Our family wants to thank the Good Samaritan Foundation for the opportunity to contribute to such a worthy cause, Cancer Care. It’s gratifying to know that together, with other like-minded people, we can pool our resources and make a significantly positive impact for health care in Southern Illinois,” stated Rex Cusumano.
