2nd Annual Gary Gaetti Day is Thursday April 1

March 30, 2021

To honor one of its biggest hometown sports heroes, the City of Centralia passed a resolution in 2020 designating the opening day of Major League Baseball as Gary Gaetti Day in the City of Centralia. The City restated the proclamation at the City Council Meeting, this past Monday, March 22nd. To celebrate the proclamation Gaetti Sports Academy is hosting an Open House and Member Appreciation event on MLB Opening Day, on April 1st from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The press and city officials will be in attendance along with Gary Gaetti, other former Major Leaguers, and members from the community.

The Member Appreciation portion of the event will include fun games and prizes, complimentary hot dogs, chips, and sodas for members. If a member brings a non-member friend, they both get free Gaetti Day t-shirts. The open house portion of the event, which is open to the public, will include an all-age $10 for 10 Pitches Home Run Derby, from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. There will also be one-day-only package specials and a Crawfish Boil Fundraiser for the Centralia Youth Center. The Crawfish Boil is $20, while supplies last starting at 5:00.

Gaetti says “Getting to interact with people from the community is always awesome and with the City being here and restating the proclamation it’s just such an honor. We have a ton of fun things happening this year. Not only are we doing things that evening, I also wanted to host a couple of camps. Considering it’s Spring Break for a lot of kids, we’ll be having day camps on both the 1st and the 5th. Parents can call the academy for more information.”

Gary Gaetti has partnered up with the developers of Meadow Woods Holdings and Castle Ridge to bring a state-of-the-art 18,000 square-foot sports facility to the Southern Illinois region which combines curriculum from Major Leagues and technology to provide a one-of-a-kind results driven experience. Castle Ridge is a five phase development on the former 60-acre property of Meadow Woods Golf Course. People can call 618-352-6067 for more information on GSA or go to Castleridge.com to see more on the next phase of the development, a 32,000 square foot castle with 3 restaurants and an event center.
