Salem High Participate in KC Honor Band
Kaskaskia College recently hosted its 7th Annual Honor Band Concert with nine area high school students participating. The event was held Thursday, April 9 in the Jane Knight Auditorium with guest conductor Mr. Michael Hanes. The concert also featured the Kaskaskia College Concert Band conducted by Professor Cliff Jourdan. The concert was free and open to the public.
This was the seventh year for KC to host the event which provided an opportunity for local students to work with and learn from a nationally known educator. Students were selected based upon information submitted by their directors; specifically their musical abilities and general commitment to music.
Honor Band Selections were: His Honor by Henry Fillmore; As Summer Was Just Beginning by Larry Daehn; Mancini Magic by Jerry Brubaker; Where The Black Hawk Soars by Robert W. Smith; and Panorama U.S.A. by James D. Ployhar.
This year’s performance also included a percussion ensemble under the direction of Professor Susan Bjork playing Scuttlebuttby Jim Casella
The KC Concert Band also performed Amparito Roca by Jamie Texidor; Clarinet Candy by Leroy Andreson; Alrington (Where Giants Lie Sleeping) by Paul Murtha; and American Barndance by Richard L. Saucedo.
