Why Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Missed the Golden Globes

Ryan Reynolds’s movie Deadpool & Wolverine was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. However, neither Reynolds nor his co-star Hugh Jackman attended the ceremony.

Reynolds’s wife, Blake Lively, is currently involved in a legal dispute with her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. According to Deadline, the decision for the couple not to attend the Golden Globes was made before the legal situation came to light.

Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni last month, accusing him of sexual harassment and leading a smear campaign against her. These details were first reported by The New York Times. In response, Baldoni sued the newspaper for libel and invasion of privacy.

A spokesperson for The New York Times has said they will defend their reporting, calling the story thorough and responsible. The article was based on thousands of documents, including text messages and emails, and to date, neither Baldoni nor his representatives have pointed out any errors in the story.

Golden Globe host Nikki Glaser mentioned before the ceremony that she would avoid discussing the ongoing legal situation in her opening monologue. She explained to Yahoo Entertainment that it was too controversial and she didn’t want to get involved in it, despite not taking sides.

At the Golden Globes, Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist won top awards. In the film categories, there were unexpected winners like Zoe Saldaña, who defeated Ariana Grande for Best Actress for her role in Emilia Pérez. Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres won Best Actress 25 years after her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, was nominated for the same category for Central Station.
