Nikki Glaser may not have won the award for best stand-up performance, but she certainly had an unforgettable night hosting the 2025 Golden Globes.
The 40-year-old comedian took the stage for her first time as host and nailed it, delivering a funny monologue and playful skits, including a musical number that combined Wicked and The Conclave, with the catchy line: “You’re gonna be Pope-ular.”
Glaser managed to joke about Hollywood’s biggest stars without crossing any lines, keeping her humor light while avoiding her usual edgy style. She kicked off the evening by making fun of weight-loss drugs and Hollywood’s casting culture.
“Welcome to the Golden Globes: Ozempic’s biggest night!” she began. “I’m Nikki Glaser, and I’m so excited to be your host tonight. I finally made it! I’m in a room full of producers, and this time, I’m keeping my clothes on. It was worth it!”
“I’m not here to roast you,” she continued, addressing the stars. “Together, you can do anything… except tell people who to vote for.”
Glaser continued to gently tease stars like Eddie Redmayne (joking about his show on Peacock) and Martin Short (for showing up just because there are cameras). But she wasn’t afraid to take a jab at Zendaya, which led into a cheeky comment about the music mogul Diddy.
“Zendaya, you were amazing in Dune,” she said. “I actually woke up for all your scenes. You were so good… and Challengers, girl? That movie was way more sexually charged than Diddy’s credit card. I’m sorry, I’m upset too. The afterparty won’t be as wild this year, but we’ll move on.”
But for the most part, her jokes were lighthearted.
She also teased Timothée Chalamet about his thin moustache, saying, “Can I just say you have the most beautiful eyelashes… on your upper lip?” She even joked that Bob Dylan himself agreed his singing in A Complete Unknown sounded “absolutely horrible.”
The only film Glaser really poked fun at wasn’t even nominated for a big award.
“Some people complained that Wicked was ruined by singing,” she said. “Then Joker 2 came out, and some people said it was ruined by the images and sounds. Sorry, Joker 2—Where’s their table? Oh… they’re not here.”
In the end, Glaser’s lighthearted roasting was just what the Golden Globes needed. She recently mentioned she hopes to host the awards show “year after year.” After tonight’s performance, it would be a great idea to keep her as a permanent host.
