Magali Benejam, who was crowned Miss Universe Argentina 2024, has lost her title after publicly alleging fraud in the November 2024 contest held in Mexico City. The decision by the Miss Universe Organisation, announced on January 2, comes in light of her claims that the results were manipulated, favoring a few contestants.
Benejam, who made it to the top 12 at the international pageant, spoke out during an interview, criticizing both the selection process and the conduct of her fellow competitors. She raised doubts about the fairness of the competition, claiming she witnessed suspicious behavior among the judges and speculated that the outcome had been predetermined. Additionally, she pointed out security measures around the winner, Danish model Victoria Kjær Theilvig, who ultimately took home the crown.
The controversy has ignited discussions about transparency in beauty pageants, with many questioning the legitimacy of the Miss Universe competition. The organisation, in response, stated that it had to act to “protect its integrity” and maintain the highest standards of conduct.
This marks the first time in recent years that the Miss Universe Organisation has taken such a decisive step, highlighting the seriousness with which they treat allegations of misconduct.
