On Sunday, January 5, Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman had a brief reunion on the red carpet at the 2025 Golden Globes. As McGregor, 53, and his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead were talking to Entertainment Tonight, Kidman, 57, stopped by to say hello to her former co-star.
When the reporter mentioned their reunion after working together on the 2001 film Moulin Rouge, Kidman added another reason to celebrate. She pointed out that McGregor’s daughter, Esther McGregor, is acting in Babygirl, playing her daughter in the movie. She joked, “It’s all too weird and too small a world,” before exchanging greetings with McGregor, Winstead, and saying goodbye.
In Babygirl, Kidman plays a powerful CEO who starts an affair with a younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson. Esther McGregor, 23, plays Kidman’s daughter, Isabel, more than 23 years after her father, Ewan, and Kidman starred together in Moulin Rouge.
McGregor proudly spoke about his daughter’s role in Babygirl, saying, “She has a couple of moments in it that really just… left my eyes open wide. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s really got it. So I’m really proud of her.'”
Earlier this year, McGregor also mentioned that Esther would be working with Kidman on a film at a Star Wars panel in Florida. “She’s playing Nicole Kidman’s daughter in a movie right now. Full circle!” McGregor said, excited about his daughter’s career.
Esther shared more about her role in Babygirl in an interview with Variety in August, describing her character as “grungy.” She mentioned that some of her personal life experiences, especially the family dynamics, seemed to mirror what she played on-screen—though in a different way, dealing with her mother instead of her father.
