After more than four years since his last album, alternative rock legend Bob Mould is ready to release his new album, Here We Go Crazy, on March 7. This will be his 15th solo album, adding to his long and successful career that includes his work with the bands Hüsker Dü and Sugar.
Here We Go Crazy was produced by Mould himself at Chicago’s Electrical Audio in early 2024. It was mixed by his longtime collaborator, Beau Sorenson. To announce the album, Mould also released a music video for the title track, which was directed by Gus Black.
In a statement, Mould shared some insights about the new album and the music video. He mentioned that he’s spent some time in the Southern California desert in recent years, and the video for Here We Go Crazy was shot in that location. He described the setting as a place of “chilly wilderness atop a mountain” with expansive views of the desert below. The desert symbolizes many different ideas, like the joy of letting go, the uncertainty of the future, and the quiet solitude that can come with being alone.
Musically, Mould says that the album features “straightforward guitar pop songs,” but there’s more beneath the surface. He explained that the record explores themes of “control and chaos, hypervigilance and helplessness, uncertainty, and unconditional love.” These themes reflect his current perspective on life and the world around him.
Mould also took to social media to provide a more personal explanation of the album. In his own words, he said the music focuses on “loud guitars, catchy melodies,” and the same team that fans know and love. He added that the album is a reflection of his thoughts on life and love and how we all navigate the challenges of the world. In simple terms, he called it “a Bob Mould album” – a collection of his signature sound.
Along with the album release, Mould will embark on a 26-date U.S. tour in April and May, where he’ll be joined by his longtime bandmates Jon Wurster and Jason Narducy. The tour will give fans the chance to hear the new songs live.
