President Joe Biden and Jill Biden Become Great-Grandparents as Naomi Biden Welcomes Baby Boy
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden announced on January 8 that they are now great-grandparents, after their eldest granddaughter, Naomi Biden, gave birth to her first child. Naomi welcomed a baby boy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, with President Biden sharing the happy news to reporters. The baby weighed 10 pounds, 4 ounces, and is named William Brannon Neal IV, a name chosen by Naomi and her husband, Peter Neal.
The couple, who are both in their 80s, spent around 40 minutes at the hospital with Naomi and the newborn. Naomi, 31, is the daughter of Hunter Biden and Kathleen Buhle. She had previously announced her pregnancy in November, posting a photo of her baby bump on Instagram with an Election Day sticker.
The Biden family’s newest addition comes just over a year after Naomi’s wedding to Peter Neal, an attorney. The couple married in a private ceremony at the White House on November 19, 2022, marking the first grandchild’s wedding at the White House in nearly a decade.
President Biden, who is 82, had expressed his excitement about becoming a great-grandfather in a previous interview, joking, “I’m about to be a great-grandfather, Jesus God.” He also mentioned that Naomi planned to have a C-section for the delivery.
The Biden family shares a close bond, and President Biden has always been open about his connection with his grandchildren. He has five children and seven grandchildren, often expressing how much they mean to him. In a 2022 podcast interview, President Biden said, “Every single day, I contact every one of my grandchildren.”
The birth of William Brannon Neal IV marks a joyful milestone for the Biden family, as they celebrate the arrival of the president’s first great-grandchild.
