A man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend in North Hollywood, following an incident over the weekend that initially involved assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call at around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, to the 12900 block of Willard Street, near the 170 Freeway and Roscoe Boulevard. Officers found a woman suffering from severe head trauma. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and was listed in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on Monday.
Investigators identified the suspect as 27-year-old Edgar Gutierrez, a resident of Panorama City. Police discovered that Gutierrez and the victim, whose identity has not been released, had been in a relationship for nearly two years. The incident unfolded outside a home in the area after a reported altercation between the two.
According to authorities, Gutierrez attempted to drive away in a car while the victim was standing near the driver’s side door. As she clung to the vehicle, Gutierrez allegedly accelerated, making aggressive maneuvers through residential streets to force her off the car. The victim was eventually thrown from the vehicle and struck the pavement. Gutierrez fled the scene immediately afterward.
Burbank Police Department officers located and arrested Gutierrez the following day after serving a search warrant. He was initially booked on suspicion of attempted murder and held on a $1 million bail at the LAPD Valley Jail.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed murder charges against Gutierrez. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to release further details about the victim.
