A 45-year-old man narrowly escaped death after being violently shoved onto the subway tracks at New York City’s 18th Street station in Manhattan. The shocking incident unfolded when the victim, distracted by his phone, was suddenly pushed by a hooded attacker just moments before a southbound train arrived.
The man was struck by the train but miraculously survived. Bystanders, witnessing the horrifying scene, expressed disbelief and relief when the man was later found conscious, despite suffering head injuries and a broken rib.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, rushing him to Bellevue Hospital, where his condition was later stabilized.
Within an hour, police arrested a 23-year-old suspect, who has a criminal history involving assault and harassment. He was charged with attempted murder and second-degree assault. Authorities believe the attack was a random act of violence.
This incident adds to a growing number of violent incidents in the city’s subway system, including a recent case where a woman was fatally burned while sleeping on a train in Brooklyn.
Mayor Eric Adams, defending the subway system, stated that overall crime remains low, despite the rising number of high-profile incidents. This attack has sparked concerns over the safety of New York City’s transit system.
