Shooting at New Year Party in Kankakee Leaves 2 Dead, 5 Injured

Two people were killed and five others injured in a shooting at a New Year’s party in Kankakee early Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. at a home on Pierson Parkway. When officers arrived, they found four people with gunshot wounds, who were quickly taken to the hospital. Three other people who were injured went to the hospital on their own.

Sadly, two men, Quaysean Isom, 22, of Kankakee, and TreVontae Ellis, 20, of Pembroke Township, died at the hospital from their injuries. The ages and conditions of the other victims—three women and two men—were not released by the police.

One person was arrested after being found hiding near the house. Two firearms and several shell casings were recovered at the scene.

Police said the shooting happened during a large party, and when officers arrived, many people were running out of the home in panic.

“This shooting and deaths are tragic, and we pray for the victims and their families,” said Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis. “I’m heartbroken for our community and the families. One loss of life is one too many.”

Anyone who may have information about the shooting is encouraged to contact Kankakee police at (815) 933-3324 or (815) 933-0426.
