From Suspicious Sight to Arrest: How a Neighbor and K-9 Stopped a Burglar

In Winder, Georgia, a sharp-eyed neighbor helped Barrow County deputies catch a man linked to a string of burglaries.

It all started on Tuesday when a concerned resident spotted someone sneaking into a house at 2325 Atlanta Highway SE. The man entered the home and then slipped out through a side window. The neighbor wasted no time calling the authorities.

Barrow County deputies arrived quickly, bringing along a K-9 unit to track the suspect. The dog led them straight to another nearby home, where they found items believed to have been stolen sitting outside.

The suspect, 28-year-old Daniel Arellano-Mata from Winder, was arrested and charged with one count of burglary. But that’s not the end of the story—investigators say more charges are likely as they continue piecing things together.

When deputies searched Arellano-Mata’s home, they found evidence tying him to four other burglaries in Barrow County and the Statham area.

Now, he’s in the Barrow County Detention Center, and authorities are asking for the public’s help. If you know anything about this case or other burglaries in the area, they want you to reach out. You can contact Investigator Wyatt or Lt. Roberts in the Criminal Investigation Division at 770-307-3080 ext. 3087.

This case shows how staying alert and speaking up can make a big difference in keeping the community safe.
