In a groundbreaking investigation, authorities are now using DNA to solve the chilling mystery surrounding eight unidentified bodies buried in a Philadelphia potter’s field.
These victims, some of whom died decades ago, were buried next to the infamous “Boy in the Box,” later identified as Joseph Augustus Zarelli. Despite the identification of Zarelli in 2022, the identities of the other victims remain a haunting enigma.
Philadelphia Police, the FBI, and genetic genealogists are working tirelessly to unravel the truth, having exhumed DNA samples from eight victims, including children and adults, found in the same burial ground.
With results still pending, the hope is to finally give these lost souls the closure they deserve.
The bodies include a young girl found in 1962, an infant boy from 1983, and several other victims found between the 1970s and 1980s.
These discoveries are part of the city’s ongoing effort to identify long-forgotten individuals, using the same advanced DNA methods that finally revealed Zarelli’s tragic story.
