20-Year-Old Charged After Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving Man in Wheelchair

A 20-year-old man, Adam Reyes, has been charged for hitting and killing a man in a wheelchair back in August. The tragic incident happened early in the morning on August 8 in Pasadena, Texas.

According to court records, Reyes was driving a black Chevrolet Silverado when he hit the victim, who was crossing the street using a crosswalk. Investigators say the man in the wheelchair had the right of way when Reyes made a left turn and struck him.

Surveillance video reviewed by the Pasadena Police Department reportedly shows Reyes slowing down after hitting the man and stopping for a few seconds. However, instead of helping, Reyes drove into a private driveway nearby. That’s where the victim’s body and wheelchair were later found.

A witness came forward and told police he saw Reyes hit the man and drag him with his vehicle. Investigators used Flock cameras—a type of surveillance tool—to identify Reyes as the driver. When police questioned him, Reyes admitted that he was behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Silverado when the crash happened. He also confessed to returning to the scene later with his girlfriend but said he was too afraid to turn himself in.

To make matters worse, Reyes admitted to police that he altered his truck after the incident to hide his involvement. He reportedly removed stickers from the back of the vehicle, changed the window tint, and even took off the “Silverado” lettering from the side.

Despite being charged with failure to stop and render aid—a serious crime in Texas—Reyes has not been arrested as of Monday afternoon.

This case has sparked concern in the Pasadena community, with many wondering how someone could leave an injured person behind after such a tragic accident. The investigation continues as police work toward ensuring justice for the victim.
