Zachery Ty Bryan Arrested Again on Domestic Violence Charges
Zachery Ty Bryan, the actor best known for his role on Home Improvement, was arrested on January 1 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on charges of second-degree domestic violence. The 43-year-old actor was taken into custody just before 7 p.m. local time and later released on a $10,000 bail on January 2.
According to a police report obtained by PEOPLE, the woman involved in the incident stated that Bryan assaulted her during an argument. The woman claimed Bryan choked her and punched her in the face multiple times. She also reported that others were present in the home during the altercation. The woman had visible injuries, including bruising and swelling, and the officer determined Bryan was the primary aggressor.
Bryan, however, told the officer that the altercation began when he attempted to take a bottle of alcohol from the woman, who reportedly refused and became physically confrontational.
This is not Bryan’s first legal trouble. The actor has faced multiple arrests related to domestic violence. In 2020, he was arrested in Oregon for allegedly strangling his girlfriend. He pled guilty to two domestic violence misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to probation. In 2023, he faced additional charges, including fourth-degree felony assault and third-degree robbery. He pled guilty to felony assault and was sentenced to a brief jail term.
Bryan’s legal troubles have raised concerns, and his former Home Improvement co-star, Tim Allen, has publicly expressed his confusion over Bryan’s recent behavior. Allen stated that he no longer recognizes the man Bryan has become, describing him as a complex individual who has changed over time.
Bryan’s fiancée, Johnny Faye Cartwright, who shares three children with him, has expressed her support for him despite the charges. She has asked for privacy during this challenging time to allow for healing.
Bryan’s ongoing legal issues continue to attract attention, and the situation remains under investigation.
