This project is directed by Uwe Boll, a German filmmaker, and marks Hammer’s second known film since he took a break from acting in 2021 following serious allegations of abuse. Hammer, 38, will play a character named Sanders, who becomes a vigilante. The film’s story follows Sanders as he gains fame and becomes a hero in the eyes of the public, but the local police chief sees him as a threat and tries to stop him.
Although the title The Dark Knight might remind people of the popular 2008 Batman movie by Christopher Nolan, the film’s executive producer, Michael Roesch, made it clear that the movie is very different from Nolan’s version. The film will explore current themes, and Hammer expressed excitement about bringing the story to life with a strong cast.
This film is one of Hammer’s first projects since returning to acting. In October, he also shared that he would star in another film, Frontier Crucible, a Western. These films will be his first major roles since his last appearance in 2022’s Death on the Nile. The allegations against Hammer from 2021 were serious, but the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office decided not to press charges in May 2023, citing a lack of evidence. Hammer has since discussed his return to acting in interviews, saying that he has been turning down jobs and is now choosing roles carefully.
While The Dark Knight does not have a U.S. release date yet, it signals a major step in Hammer’s return to Hollywood after a challenging time in his career.
