Congressman Shimkus and Representative Meier tour Castle Ridge development
Last week U.S. Congressman John Shimkus and State Representative Charlie Meier visited the ongoing multi-phased 60-acre development site of Castle Ridge, the property being the former Meadow Woods Country Club in Centralia. Part of the development is the recently completed Gaetti Sports Academy (GSA), a state-of-the-art baseball training and coaching facility designed for youths, high school and college age individuals and teams. The facility is expected to train and coach individuals from throughout Illinois and neighboring states. Centralia native and former Major League Baseball player Gary Gaetti explained the 18,000 sq. ft. facility and the computer-aided training system HitTrax, that allows the participants to follow and evaluate their training and progress. Both Shimkus and Meier took their turn in the batting cage and then observed the analysis of their performance. Major League Baseball coaches for the facility are Gaetti, Dwight Bernard, Kirk Rueter and Bryan Eversgerd, along with local coaches Torey Crowell and Jack Harting,
In addition, Congressman Shimkus and Rep. Meier toured the ongoing construction site of Castle Ridge-Lakefront Restaurant-Wedding and Conference Center, a huge multi-level castle-like structure to be completed this fall.
Greg Sutton, director of Meadow Woods Holding, LLC (the developer of the project) explained the interior floor plans of the building’s restaurant and the options available for the wedding and event center activities. Large windows throughout show different views of the lake. Future phases of development include cabins, other venues and activities on the grounds.
