Nicole Kidman Drinks Milk on Stage While Accepting “Babygirl” Award

Nicole Kidman recently paid tribute to her character in the film Babygirl during her acceptance speech at the National Board of Review Gala in New York City. The 57-year-old actress won the award for Best Actress and made a memorable gesture by raising a glass of milk, referencing a notable scene from the A24 erotic thriller. As she lifted the glass high, she declared, “I’m going to raise a glass of milk to all of the baby girls in the room.” The audience responded with cheers as Kidman drank the entire glass and added with a playful smile, “Good girl,” before exiting the stage.

The milk moment ties back to a pivotal scene in Babygirl, where Kidman’s character, Romy, a powerful CEO and seemingly perfect wife and mother, begins a forbidden romance with her young intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson. In the scene, Romy receives an unexpected glass of milk from Samuel while at a bar with friends. Startled at first, she locks eyes with him across the room and drinks the milk in a bold and suggestive manner. Later, as the venue empties, Samuel whispers “Good girl” to Romy, solidifying their charged connection.

The film’s director, Halina Reijn, shared that the milk scene was inspired by a real-life experience. Reijn recalled going to a bar alone after a production because her friends were being unadventurous. There, a younger, well-known Belgian actor she admired ordered her a glass of milk instead of a drink. Although she didn’t typically drink milk, Reijn found the gesture daring and provocative, and decided to accept it fully by finishing the glass. Reflecting on that night, she called it “one of the most arousing moments” of her life.

On the red carpet, Kidman teased that Babygirl is best watched alone due to its steamy and intense nature. The film explores themes of power, desire, and vulnerability, making it a bold entry in Kidman’s career. She revealed feeling both exposed and empowered while making the film, praising the collaborative process with Reijn and the rest of the team. With its unique blend of drama and sensuality, Babygirl continues to spark conversations, just as Kidman’s playful milk toast did at the gala.
