LIHEAP energy assistance available
Crosswalk Community Action Agency is still setting up appointments and taking applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which began October 2018. The LIHEAP Program provides financial assistance to eligible households to help pay a portion of their winter heating bills. Households who have not applied since October 1, 2018 are encouraged to apply. Crosswalk will continue to take applications until May 31, 2019 or until funds are depleted. Crosswalk receives State and Federal Grant money from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to help low income families in Franklin, Jefferson and Williamson Counties.
The first step in receiving Energy Assistance is to visit the outreach site in your county and make an appointment so an application can be made at a later date. Eligibility is based upon gross income for the thirty day time frame, which includes the date of the application, and is $1,518 for one person households, $2,058 for two person households, $2,598 for three person households and $3,138 for four person households. Also, you MUST be the Customer of Record (COR) at your utility company.
Also, any eligible household that is disconnected from their utility or who is at or below 25% on a delivered fuel and cannot get a delivery on their own may qualify for Re-Connection assistance. If there are any questions, please call Crosswalk’s Main Office at 618-937-3581 and speak to someone in the LIHEAP Department. Please do not call the IL Dept. of Human Services office or the American Job Center office.
