The day began with community members arriving at the Elmwood Cemetery for the memorial day services. After everyone was seated, Gayla Harting from the City of Centralia welcomed everyone.

The ceremony began with the posting of colors by the color guard from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2055 and American Legion Post #446.
DeAna Manns played music during the ceremony.

The Boy Scout Troops #260 and #446 came forward to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Gayla Harting gave the opening remarks. She then introduced Reverend Val Powe to come to the podium to give the prayer. After the prayer service, the Honorable Mayor Herb Williams welcomed everyone in attendance and continued with his opening remarks.

Reverend Powe was also the guest speaker. He spoke on the beginning and the meaning of Memorial Day and how we should remember our lost loved ones.

The placement of the wreaths ceremony was next on the agenda with Centralia Mayor Herb Williams, Wamac Mayor Jackie “Butch” Mathus and Central City Mayor Terry Johnston individually placing the wreath from their town in front of the Pittenger Monument.

Reverend Powe came back up to the podium to give the closing prayer. The three-volley salute was performed. “Taps” was played by Wayne Sensel of the American Legion.

Everyone in attendance was given the opportunity to go on a short walking tour of the cemetery.
