Annual Centralia Relay for Life event coming up June 21
By Tina Suarez
Centralia Relay for Life will be held Friday, June 21 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Fairview Park.
Event organizers need everyone to mark their calendars to come out and enjoy all of the festivities and delicious food while contributing to a great cause to benefit all cancer survivors in their fight for a cure. This is a family friendly event with children’s games. There will be music for everyone.
Relay for Life members are asking everyone to come walk for the cure with their loved ones.
Luminarias are on sale now. To purchase your luminaria, you can contact any committee member or you can contact Tina Suarez at 214-0836 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The planning committee is still looking for sponsors for the event as well as teams. It is not too late to get involved.
The committee is also still looking for individuals to assist with “Paint the Town Purple” as well as participating in something new. Centralia Relay for Life is asking businesses or individuals to decorate a pole downtown to support Relay for Life as well as showing visitors that come into the community that we work hard to help our citizens in need.
Poles can be decorated starting June 7, and decorations must be taken down by June 25. Decorate a pole in honor of a cancer survivor or in memory of someone that you have lost to cancer. Event organizers will be having the poles judged for prizes.
Much of the suffering and death from cancer could be prevented by more systematic efforts to reduce tobacco use, improve diet and physical activity, and expand the use of established screening tests.
The Centralia Relay for Life committee would like to stress that it is very important for everyone to get all of the necessary screenings done to make sure medical professionals can find any cancer early. Then hopefully the patient can be treated early enough to increase their survival rate.
