Shimkus Blasts Partisan Impeachment Resolution

November 4, 2019

WASHINGTON – Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15) on Thursday voted against H.Res.660, a purely partisan political resolution promising to continue the Democrats’ never-ending quest to overturn the 2016 election.

“Democratic leaders know they are not able to impeach President Trump using open and fair procedures,” Shimkus said. “They simply are drawing out the illegitimate process they have created in order to keep ‘impeachment’ in the headlines and damage the President as much as possible.

“This is not impeachment. Even the name of the resolution admits as much: ‘Directing certain committees to continue their ongoing investigations as part of the existing House of Representatives inquiry into whether sufficient grounds exist for the House of Representatives to exercise its Constitutional power to impeach Donald John Trump, President of the United States of America, and for other purposes.’

“They should have just called it the ‘We can’t find reason to impeach, so we are just going to keep this process going on and on and on Resolution.’ “
