Have a safe Memorial Day!

Usually Memorial Day is a time to remember our veterans. But it’s also a time that families are gathering to remember those that have served. For many it’s a trip to the cemetery to pay tribute to our fallen heroes as well as take the time to gather with family and friends. For many it will be very different this year as we protect one another from the corona virus.

At this time many of us don’t feel very free in the current situation. The one thing we all can do is hope all this ends soon, as some predict, while others say it could take a long time. Only time will tell!

I often wonder what my father, a World War II veteran, would say if he were alive today. I’m sure it will come as a shock, but he was a diehard Democrat — a conservative Democrat, I might say — as was the rest of my family. Would he be today? I don’t think so!

I believe he would take issue with the dishonesty in the political arena on both sides of the aisle, especially with the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, as well as Chuck Schumer. Adam (Shifty) Schiff would be easy for him to see through and the likes of James Comey would rub him very wrong. He would never understand the push to welcome illegal immigrants to say the least, nor would he understand the goal of some to sacrifice whatever they needed to have total control and destroy the freedoms my father fought so hard to preserve, finally taking his life.

And I have no doubt how he would feel about Benghazi or what he would say about the treasonous actions of the past administration to destroy an incoming duly-elected President through trumped-up charges against our president, using fake reports of collusion with Russia. And as the days go by, it looks like Obamagate is taking Russiagate’s place, making you wonder how far did the then-President go to cripple his successor. And frankly, I wonder if he’s still at it!

My father would say, as I am saying, it’s now clear the Obama-Comey FBI and Justice Department never had anything more substantial than the laughable fiction of the Steele dossier supported by the DNC to justify the “counterintelligence” investigation of the Trump campaign. Follow-up by the Bob Mueller-led special counsel investigation — which I called all along a “witch hunt,” with victim Gen. Mike Flynn — showed in Obama’s final days in office that Obama played a key role in fanning the flames.

What would my honorable, patriotic father say? I believe he would say, “I don’t recognize my country.” But it would still be his country. Several years ago I wrote a column titled, “Not My Father’s Country.”

On a closing note, whose fault is all this? I would say ours…yes ours. We voted these people in and we keep voting them in.

Let me leave you with the following: We need leaders not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity. —Martin Luther King
