IFBWC holds 98th annual convention in Effingham
By Tina Suarez
The annual Illinois Federation of Business Women’s Club held its convention on April 26 – 28 at the Thelma Keller Convention Center in Effingham. This was a milestone celebration for the organization. It was their 100th anniversary as a chartered organization. The organization is known for “Women Helping Women.” The celebration began on Friday afternoon with an afternoon visit to the Tuscan Winery for all in attendance to socialize and meet up with both old and new friends. This year as part of the celebration, everyone was able to tour the “Treasures from the Past” room. All local BWC/BPW members were asked to bring memorabilia from the history of their locals. Each member attending was given a copy of the 100th IFBWC magazine.
All ladies that were in attendance for the first time at an annual convention were treated to a quaint get together to meet each other and to find out what they should expect to participate in during the weekend.
The Friday evening dinner was held with a style show by IFBWC members. The first business session of the convention began after dinner with annual recognition awards and the Golden Book of Memories honoring all members that we have lost throughout the year.
The evening concluded with a relaxing pajama party.
The second day of the convention began with a wonderful breakfast for the past presidents that attended the convention. The speak off competition followed with seven ladies speaking on topics that they got to choose from. All members did an excellent job. The day continued with the second business session. A luncheon was held to honor all of the Celia M. Howard winners. The afternoon began with the third and final business session of the convention.
All members were able to participate in a fun wine bottle painting class. All members were able to go into the “Treasures of the Past” room. This room was composed of historic artifacts from all local BWC’s throughout the state.
Saturday evening dinner was held in a beautifully decorated ballroom.
The Outstanding Women of Illinois was awarded. The evening ended with a dessert tasting and social time among the members. The 98th Illinois Federation of Business Women convention was very successful.
