Upcoming Benefit For Larry Mooney

Lifestyle
September 25, 2018

Larry Mooney is a lifelong Jefferson County resident, having spent most of his life in Dix where he still resides with his wife Connie. Larry has served the public for many years, first at Rome Grade School where he and Connie taught for over thirty years. After retiring from Rome, Larry went on to teach math at Rend Lake College. He also serves as Dix Village President and as a Deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

On May 26 while visiting Hickory, North Carolina for a family wedding, Larry suffered a heart attack. He was transferred from a local hospital to Wake Forest Medical Center, where he underwent triple bypass surgery and a major aorta repair. Larry spent the next month at Wake Forest before being transferred by ambulance on June 29 to White Oaks in Mount Vernon for rehabilitation. He currently remains at White Oaks until he is able to return to his home.

Throughout this journey, insurance has not covered all necessary medical expenses, leaving Larry and Connie to cover portions of his healthcare out of their own pockets.

Because of Larry’s impact on his community, his friends and family have come together to host a benefit to help raise the funds to cover those expenses which insurance did not. This Benefit will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Rome Grade School. The benefit will include a pulled pork supper from 4 to 7 p.m. and a silent auction and carnival games from 5 to 8 p.m.

Larry’s friends and family are asking for help in putting this benefit on. Here are a few ways you can assist them.

1. Donate Items for the silent auction.
2. Donate directly to the Mooneys via Peoples National Bank. (Ask for the Mooney Benefit Account.)
3. Purchase event tickets at either of the Byrd-Watson locations in Mt. Vernon or the Dix–Kell water office.
4. Volunteer your time at the event.
