Save Murray Center Subcommittee Celebration Plans Update

A Subcommittee Meeting was held at 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 12, 2014 at Centralia High School where participants reviewed plans for the upcoming Celebration Week to be held the week of September 20. The theme is Celebrate Murray — Celebrate Our Citizens.

On Sept. 17 the Centralia Chamber of Commerce will feature Murray Center at their Chamber luncheon at the Centralia Elks.

On Thursday, Sept. 18 the Salem Chamber of Commerce will feature Murray Center at their Chamber luncheon at the Salem Elks.

On Sunday, Sept. 21 a fundraiser pasta dinner for the Murray Parents Association (MPA) will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Centralia High School cafetorium. Please use the 161 and Airport Road entrance. Carryouts will be available for those who can not stay to eat.  The school cafeteria seating is between 300 and 350. Dinner entertainment will be provided by the CHS choirs and band.   Dinner tickets can be purchased at a cost of $10 for adults, $7 for kids 12 and under, at Centralia High School, Centralia City Hall, Centralia Chamber of Commerce and The Shopper’s Weekly. Tickets can also be purchased at the door at a cost of $12 for adults, $7 for kids 12 and under.

Twenty or more students are expected to be working in the gym. Kids games and activities will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. in the gym for a $5 donation. There will be face painting and jumpy toys.

Event organizers also plan a dessert raffle, a 50 / 50 raffle, a tee shirt sales table and a silent auction.  The auction will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. to determine first choice seating for Orphans season tickets; the  suggested minimum bid is $250 for four chair seats. You must purchase a dinner ticket to participate in the auction.

A “Fill the Gym” Murray Center Night in the Fall basketball game will be held at a later date still to be determined.
On Friday, Sept. 26, the Kaskaskia Workshop, Inc. and Peoples National Bank will team up for a 50/50 Challenge to raise $5,050 for the MPA. Their team will be delivering BBQ sandwich meals for a suggested $5 donation. In addition, ongoing public donation 50/50 matches are being offered by Community Trust Bank with their Selfie Photo Challenge and both Monken dealerships in Centralia. See additional information on page 12.
