Sandoval High School Hosting Community Health Fair

Sandoval High School is hosting the second annual Sandoval High School Community Health Fair for Sandoval, Patoka, Odin, Salem, Centralia, and Carlyle area residents during the school’s annual Relay for Life Week. The event will take place on Thursday, May 1st from 5 to 7 PM in the high school gymnasium, and is an extension of the Health & Safety Fair held earlier in the day at Sandoval Grade School. While students at the elementary school will learn how to stay healthy and safe, especially during the summer, the high school health fair is open to the community and will showcase businesses and organizations in the area that contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

Sixteen booths covering food and nutrition, fitness, and health and safety will be available at the Sandoval High School Community Health Fair. The food and nutrition category is rounded out by Sandoval FFA students, who will be offering vegetable gardening tips; Salem Farmers’ Market, University of Illinois Extension and Greenball Freight.

Fitness opportunities from Centralia Recreation Complex, Centralia Foundation Park, and Carlyle Lake will all be represented at the fair. To get your heart pumping, Rob Bachman will demonstrate Zumba and Kettle Bells; and Sandoval P.E. students will demonstrate exercise routines appropriate for all ages and ability levels. There will also be information regarding 5 Rings Mixed Martial Arts.

In the Health & Safety section of the fair, attendees can get their blood pressure checked and find out their Body Mass Index from Sandoval CNA students, learn more from the Marion County Health Department, and receive information from organizations such as: Community Resource Center and Salem Township Hospital, but not least, Tammy from Tammy’s Therapeutic Touch in Salem will be offering one minute massages! There will also be Kyusho Acupressure Demonstrations at the event.

In addition to all the valuable information attendees will take away from the event, they will also have the chance to win one of many door prizes donated by participants including free merchandise and services from Greenball Freight, Tammy’s Therapeutic Touch, The Hobo Nickel, Rob Bachman Zumba, Executive Profile Blood Work from the Marion County Health Department, U of I Extension and Centralia Recreation Complex.
