Rotary STRIVE Graduates Visit England
The Rotary Club of Mount Vernon was visited in June, 2017 by members of the Rotary Club of Minster on Sea, England. Personal friends of Rotarians Lane and Mary Harvey they were so impressed by the STRIVE program, a joint education/leadership program sponsored by Rotary, Rend Lake Collage and the Mount Vernon Township High School, they made a donation for an all-expense paid trip to England for a STRIVE graduate.
The Rotary Club of Mount Vernon matched the donation and after interviewing potential graduates Zion McMillian, center left, a Rend Lake College student, and Javontay Moss, center right, a student at the University of Southern Indiana were selected for the trip which was organized by Mary Harvey and Rotarian Kay Zibby-Damron. McMillian and Moss, recent guests at a Rotary meeting, reported the two week trip, from which they just returned, provided many opportunities for learning and entertainment including visiting the Houses of Parliament, many London sights and museums and a side trip to Belgium and France.
They closed by thanking the Rotary Clubs for the travel opportunity afforded them. Also, pictured is Kay Zibby-Damron, who introduced the program and Rotary president James Flagg.
