Rotarians hear talk from CHS basketball coach
The Centralia Rotary Club held their weekly meeting on Monday, Dec. 9 at the Centralia Elks Club. The speaker was Lee Bennett, who serves as both the head basketball coach and men’s athletic director for Centralia High School (CHS).
Before beginning his talk, Coach Bennett told the club about his cousin who works for Rotary International in Evanston, Illinois. She serves Rotary as the Regional Grants Officer for India and Nepal and has lived in Mongolia, Southeast Asia, and other places during her lifetime. He has also been very impressed with Centralia’s Rotary Park, the baseball diamonds there, and the current efforts to light the park.
Bennett began his talk by mentioning the upcoming Centralia Holiday Tournament, which runs from December 26 through December 28 at CHS. Though it has not been in existence the longest, the Centralia Holiday Tournament is the longest consecutive running tournament in the state. This year, 16 teams will come from local schools as well as those as far away as Chicago, Missouri, and Tennessee to compete. One new team this year, for example, will be Romeoville, IL, which is southwest of Chicago between Aurora and Joliet.
