Relay For Life Plans Luminaria Ceremony
A special Luminaria ceremony held during the Relay For Life of Jefferson County event on Saturday, June 9, 2018 will remember those lost to cancer and honors those who have survived.
Luminaria are white paper bags decorated with names and messages to the people they are dedicated to. They honor every life touched by cancer and can be dedicated to loved ones lost, those currently battling, or anyone who has overcome it.
During the Luminaria Ceremony, which is set to start at 8:45 p.m. on June 9, Luminaria will line the inside of the walking track and be illuminated with glow sticks in honor of cancer survivors and those who have lost their lives to cancer.
Anyone desiring to purchase a luminaria may do so by contacting any Relay For Life team member or by calling the Luminaria Chair Brenda Lawson at 618-315-1754. Luminaria bags are available for a donation of $10. All funds raised through these sales support the programs and services of the American Cancer Society.
Relay For Life is set for Saturday, June 9 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Veterans Park in Mt. Vernon. Former and current cancer patients, families, businesses, civic organizations, and the public are invited to take part in this team event to fight cancer.
