National Small Business Week Proclamation
By Tina Suarez
Last week, May 6 to May 11, 2019, was National Small Business Week. This special week is the time where businesses are acknowledged for the great things that they do to serve their communities.
The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce promoted the week by meeting with Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis on May 8 with the signing of a proclamation naming it National Small Business week.
Chamber employees as well as chamber ambassadors were in attendance. Many people from the community were also in attendance.
After the signing of the proclamation, chamber ambassadors were each given a list of local businesses that are chamber members. The ambassadors visited these businesses to thank them for being chamber members as well as informing them that each and every person that is employed by their business is also a chamber member. The ambassadors also gave out information on upcoming events as well as a brochure about chamber bucks. This is a program that allows anyone to purchase chamber bucks through the chamber office to use as cash in numerous local businesses. This keeps people shopping locally.
Many businesses that were visited gave the ambassadors a thank you back for coming to visit them.
