A nationally known speaker, author, radio host and former “Mother of the Year” whose passion is to help others make the next right choice based on God’s word will be the featured guest at this year’s annual Mt. Vernon Prayer Breakfast.
Kendra Smiley, Illinois Mother of the Year in 2001, will take the podium for the program on Sept. 5 at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon.
Smiley speaks to audiences in the thousands each year on a national and international level at retreats and conferences, where she brings her message of choice.

Smiley was born and raised in central Illinois, 30 minutes from the town she currently calls home, Paxton.
She was the daughter of a local dentist and the youngest of three children. She graduated with honors from the University of Illinois and earned her Master of Science degree from the University of North Dakota and went on to become an educator and coach.
She and her husband of more than 35 years, John, collaborate on a monthly column in the Prairie Farmer magazine and she is the author of nine books including, Journey of Strong Willed Child.
She is the mother to three sons and grandmother to nine grandchildren.
