Local DAR Group to Celebrate Constitution Week
The members of the Prairie State Chapter NSDAR will have a very busy month in September. On Sept. 5 at 2:30, they will be at Trinity Lutheran School to observe some very important dates and events of this great country of ours.
On Sept. 2 the U.S. Treasury was established, 230 years ago. VJ Day, the formal surrender of Japan, ending World War II, was 74 years ago. On Sept. 5 the first session of Continental Congress was held, 245 years ago. On Sept. 9 Congress renamed the nation the United States of America, 243 years ago. Sept. 11 marks the 18th anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers.
DAR members will celebrate Constitution Week from Sept. 17 through 24 with a program at the Carillon on Sept. 17 at 2:30 “Bells Across America.”
Sept. 18 Marks the founding of the Air Force in 1947. We will celebrate its 72nd birthday, and on Sept. 20 is POW-MIA Day, remembering the men who gave so much for our country.
Sept. 26 will be the first meeting for the 2019-2020 year for the Chapter. The group will meet at Jerry’s Grill at 11:30 and the program will include Tammy Stevens, Patriot James Gaston and the children’s book written by Tammy.
